Next Thursday 28th March marks our 125th Anniversary.
During 1893 a group of men from Glenluce and Stranraer discussed the possibility of finding a suitable piece of land and starting a golf club. By the first week of March 1894, the 65 acres of land known as Mains of Park (present holes 1-4 & 14-18), had been leased and the services of Charles Hunter a professional at Prestwick had been engaged to design 9 holes of ‘sporting character’.
The Course was officially opened four weeks later, at noon on the 28th March 1894, by Sir Herbet Maxwell Bart MP. The original Clubhouse, an old tennis pavilion, was gifted shortly after the opening and was erected at the then 1st Tee – near the present 4th Green. … See MoreSee Less
Well done Craig Milby.🎯🎯 Target League Final Results 🎯🎯
Last Friday we had the Winter Target League Finale Night at GreenValley GolfAcademy where 12 players came out to try better their league scores or to win the final sweep 😎
Dean Fyfe took the cash with a 28 points scoring him the lowest card on the final night, in second was Craig Milby who secured his place ontop of the overall leaderboard as neither of the two closest contenders could challenge him 🙌🏼
Down the bottom of the leaderboard Lyle Avci was delighted to have a company in the Leagues worst score section as Nick McCulloch managed to ding his way round for an impressive 0 points 😂
1st Dean Fyfe – £7 2nd Craig Milby – £5 T3 Mike Cowie – £2 T3 Bob Graham – £2
Thank you to everyone who took part in my first ever go at a Winter Target League I hope everyone enjoyed it and looks forward to the new and improved version which will be starting again in October 2019 😃
Winter League Prize Winners
1st Craig Milby – £80 + Free Gapping Session 2nd Watty Watson – £50 + Free Gapping Session 3rd Malky Smith – £30 + Free Gapping Session 4th Rab McDougall – £20 + Free Gapping Session 5th Andy Downie – Free Gapping Session + Prize from Green Vally Golf Academy
Hope everyone is happy with the prizes I had 14 players join the league at £20 per person that’s £280. The cash prizes above add upto £180 and then I have thrown in 5 Free Gapping sessions which usually cost £25 each to make the prizes back up to over the original prize pot. I will use the £100 from the prize fund to improve the League for next Winter, the £100 is being spent on a stand alone LED floodlight to sit out on the range and light up the furthest away Target, two free standing signs to sit outside the range and down at the Target League bays for advertising and equipment to make the targets better and easier to see 🙌🏼
I am also going to be looking for sponsors for the Winter League to allow me to get better prizes and better equipment 👏🏼
My end goal is to make as many opportunities as possible to grow the game within Wigtownshire and I believe a massive part of that is through keeping people playing through the Winter and by making it fun and competitive at the same time so keep your eyes on this page there is much more to come 😎🏌🏼♀️🏌️♂️⛳️ … See MoreSee Less
